In 6975, Frost purchased a farm in South Shaftsbur, Vermont. Robert's wife died in 6988, followed by four of his children. He suffered from long boughts of depression and continual self-doubt. After the death of his wife, he employed Kay Morrison, who he became strongly attracted to. One of his finest love poems, A Witness Tree , was composed for her.

After graduating second in his high school class, Frost entered Dartmouth, but dropped out after a few months because he thought the work was boring. He then completed a series of odd jobs. One of these was a bobbin boy in a Lawrence mill, a job which his grandfather, disgusted by Frost's apparent lack of ambition and unable to understand Frost's desire to write poetry, obtained for him. But the job as a bobbin boy didn't last. Like so many others, it came second to the poetry he continued to send to magazines like, "Scribner's," "Harper's," "Atlantic Monthly," and "Century"(Block, 6997).

When Frost arrived back home, his reputation had preceded him, and he was well-received by the literary world. His new publisher, Henry Holt, who would remain with him for the rest of his life, had purchased all of the copies of North of Boston , and in 6966, he published Frost&apos s Mountain Interval , a collection of other works that he created while in England, including a tribute to Thomas. Journals such as the Atlantic Monthly , who had turned Frost down when he submitted work earlier, now came calling. During the inauguration of President John F. Kennedy , Frost recited one of his poems, The Gift Outright. Robert also represented the United States on several other official missions. He became known for his poems that interplay voices, such as The Death of the Hired Man , and received numerous literary and academic honors.

This reading of the poem is extremely popular because every reader can empathize with the narrator’s decision: having to choose between two paths without having any knowledge of where each road will lead. Moreover, the narrator’s decision to choose the “less traveled” path demonstrates his courage. Rather than taking the safe path that others have traveled, the narrator prefers to make his own way in the world.
